Corning’s summer internship experience is rich with hands-on learning. You’ll live, work, and experience the communities in which Corning operates, while building on-the-job skills. As our Intern, you will be responsible for developing applications and infrastructure to support Corning’s materials informatics initiatives. Candidates must have experience in one or more programming languages. This position requires good communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with remote team members.
The purpose of our Intern Program is to raise the bar on talent by strengthening our pipeline for entry level roles for immediate and future needs.
To be considered for an internship at Corning Incorporated, you must be actively enrolled at a college or university as a full-time student seeking a bachelor’s degree or higher. You must also have a current cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (on a 0.00 to 4.00 scale).

Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a larger project team on various aspects of software engineering
- Under the direction of project managers, provide support to the larger team goals of developing software to enable the use of scientific information generated in Research and Development
- Work with design experts and users to consider the user experience
- Write supporting documentation as necessary for long-term maintenance purposes
Travel requirements (please note if international):
- Anticipated travel time <10% (domestic).
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
- M-F; 40 hours per week
- Some flexibility required
- Duration: Summer 2021, 8-12 weeks
Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration):
- Pursuing Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
- Will also consider engineering majors with accompanying strong software skills
- To qualify for internship, students must be enrolled for school in Fall of 2021. Bachelor's students should be going into senior year (or 2nd year for graduate students).
Required Skills:
- Working knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems
- Foundational knowledge of software algorithms, data structures and design principles with a proven ability to design and build code
- Experience with multiple programming languages including Python
- Basic understanding of data science and statistical principles
Desired Skills:
- Strong Python programming skills
- Data science skills
- Experience with semantic web technologies
- Experience with research processes, either from undergraduate or graduate research projects
- Experience with basic software development tools such as git
Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership):
- Must be self-motivated to deliver meaningful results as required by project
- Collaborative and able to openly engage with colleagues from diverse cultures, disciplines and backgrounds to achieve project goals
- The ability to communicate effectively by phone and video with team members in multiple locations
