Position Scope Details:

This internship is with the Software Engineering team in the Scientific Computing group, which exists to enhance the modeling capabilities of Corning Incorporated. Our team works with a variety of development frameworks and state of the art hardware to deliver solutions that enhance Corning’s ability to innovate. Our software engineers are responsible for the full systems development life cycle for projects that use a variety of back end, front end, and database technologies.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:
Work with a senior Software Engineer(s) and our Modeling community to improve Corning’s modeling processes. This can include developing models, helping modelers to use our HPC clusters efficiently, or deploying models in a way that makes them accessible by Corning engineers worldwide (e.g. in Kubernetes). This work may be done on an individual basis with guidance, or as part of an agile team.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Normal Business Hours 8:00-5:00.
  • Duration: Summer 2021, 8-12 weeks.

 

Required Education: 

  • Pursuing Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar degree requiring significant programming and project development.

 

Required Skills:

  • Experience developing in an object-oriented programming language (Python, Java, etc.) and an ability to adapt to other languages.
  • Experience with front end development including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Experience working with databases (relational and non-relational).

Seagate Research Group is looking for an excellent graduate student to fill in an intern position as a High Speed Analog and Mixed Signal Electrical Engineer.
Candidate need to have interests in electrical IC and PCB design.  Work will focus on items such as:

  • Analog and Mixed Signal modelling, schematic, and layout
  • Familiarity with the design of High-speed TIAs, high speed differential amplifiers

Research Intern —Mobile Communications and Networking

The Mobile Communications & Networking department has multiple intern positions available for graduate students during summer 2021. We have an active research program with focus on wireless communications, sensing and networking. During this summer, we aim to continue our current activity as well as create seeds for new directions.

We are looking for summer interns in the following areas:

a) Localization and Tracking: Design and build innovative wireless tracking solutions that can operate in resource-constrained (infrastructure cost, energy, etc.) environments; scope ranges from ultra low power wireless tracking tags to intelligent sensor fusion (visual, RF, acoustic, etc.) approaches for collaborative, immersive applications.

b) Applications over mmWave networks: Context-aware, real-time 3D reconstruction using autonomous agents (AGVs, self-driving vehicles, etc.) operating over local 5G mmWave networks for enabling digital twin applications in industrial environments.

c) mmWave Networks: Designing and implementing new beam-selection algorithms and codebook designs in mmWave base-stations on a test-bed deployed within NECLA campus and evaluating their performance. Explore the use of directional mmWave transmissions for positioning applications.

 

d) Wireless Sensing: Design and implement new wireless sensing hardware architecture and algorithms that can track and identify human activity in an indoor environment. Scope for sensor technology includes UWB and mmWave radars, and includes solutions for collaborative/cooperative sensing solutions using multiple devices. Explore the use of AI/ML techniques in improving sensor and activity detection accuracy.

 

We are seeking candidates with experience in building embedded wireless systems, low-power RF design, applied machine learning for wireless sensing, AR/VR systems, beamforming and code-book design, and in general extensive hands-on systems building experience, as appropriate for the areas outlined above.
