Software Engineer Intern (Summer 2026) at Elayne (S24) -- A CEO Connection Company
CEO Connection
Location
New York, NY
Job Type
Internship
About Elayne

Elayne helps families organize their assets, estate documents, and key contacts in one place, then guides them through life transitions as circumstances and priorities evolve. Like getting married, moving, having a baby, or losing a parent. Unlike traditional wealth management tools or online estate platforms that produce static legal documents, Elayne is dynamic, intelligent, and built not just to delight, but to comfort and guide you when it matters most.

I started Elayne after my mom passed away and I had to settle her estate, accounts, and affairs - essentially, I suddenly had to untangle all the details of her life. It was shocking how fragmented and opaque the process was and how I spent hundreds of hours chasing documents, coordinating accounts, filling legal gaps, and navigating unfamiliar systems, all while grieving and working full time. It shouldn’t be that way.

In the future, you could hire an attorney, download DIY legal forms, fax and mail physical documents, sync 10 different fintech apps, use a financial planner, spend thousands in fees, and hope it all holds together. Or, you could just use Elayne.

Backed by major investors like Y Combinator and Accel, we are now a 6 person team based in NYC.

About the role

Skills: Tailwind, React, TypeScript, Software Architecture, PostgreSQL, Amazon Web Services (AWS)

ABOUT ELAYNE:

Elayne is an Applied AI company reimagining how families organize, protect, and transfer their estates, from financial accounts and legal documents to digital assets and end-of-life wishes. We combine structured data, custom AI agents, and guided UX to make estate optimization and post-loss settlement fast, clear, and dignified.

We integrate with banks, insurance providers, legal systems, and data aggregators to create a real-time, intelligent view of an individual or family’s estate. Then we proactively adapt to life events (like having a child or losing a parent), and automate complex legal-financial workflows that typically take families years to finish.

We’re an Accel and YC-backed seed stage company, launched last year and we’re operating in a manual $260B TAM, with over $80T in assets expected to transfer in the coming decades. This is a greenfield market for AI, and we intend to define the category.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Software Engineering Intern at Elayne, you’ll work closely with our founding team to build and ship production features across the stack. You’ll focus on mobile and responsive design, polish, and quality, contributing to customer-facing improvements that make Elayne more intuitive and reliable. Along the way, you’ll gain meaningful ownership, hands-on mentorship, and firsthand experience building at a fast-moving, early-stage startup.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Build and ship full-stack features using React, NestJS, PostgreSQL (Supabase), and AWS
  • Improve mobile and responsive user experiences across our app
  • Test and QA new features to ensure reliability and polish
  • Debug and resolve smaller issues across the codebase to boost developer velocity.
Collaborate with product, design, and engineering to deliver customer-facing improvements quickly

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

About Us

Underscore VC is a Boston-based venture capital firm backing bold B2B software entrepreneurs at Pre-Seed and Seed. Inspired by the principles of open source software — community, collaboration, and transparency — Underscore pioneered an “open source” investing model, sharing investment returns with a vibrant, curated, expert ecosystem — the Underscore Core Community — that sources and supports the startups Underscore backs. With $300M under management, we're deeply committed to Boston's innovation landscape, investing half our capital right here in our backyard, with 30% of our founders emerged from Boston's world-class academic institutions. Program Snapshot

The Underscore Venture Fellows Program is built for students who want to step inside the world of venture or are interested in starting a company themselves - from identifying ambitious founders and exciting market trends to observing how early-stage investing unfolds behind the scenes.

Fellows will focus on uncovering new startup opportunities emerging from their academic environments and will gain firsthand exposure to how VCs evaluate markets, founders, and ideas. You’ll be invited to collaborate with our team, learn the inner workings of a fund, and build lasting relationships across the startup ecosystem.
