Founding Senior Engineer (AI / ML) at Elayne (S24) -- A CEO Connection Company
CEO Connection
Location
New York, NY
Job Type
Full-Time
About Elayne

Elayne helps families organize their assets, estate documents, and key contacts in one place, then guides them through life transitions as circumstances and priorities evolve. Like getting married, moving, having a baby, or losing a parent. Unlike traditional wealth management tools or online estate platforms that produce static legal documents, Elayne is dynamic, intelligent, and built not just to delight, but to comfort and guide you when it matters most.

I started Elayne after my mom passed away and I had to settle her estate, accounts, and affairs - essentially, I suddenly had to untangle all the details of her life. It was shocking how fragmented and opaque the process was and how I spent hundreds of hours chasing documents, coordinating accounts, filling legal gaps, and navigating unfamiliar systems, all while grieving and working full time. It shouldn’t be that way.

In the future, you could hire an attorney, download DIY legal forms, fax and mail physical documents, sync 10 different fintech apps, use a financial planner, spend thousands in fees, and hope it all holds together. Or, you could just use Elayne.

Backed by major investors like Y Combinator and Accel, we are now a 6 person team based in NYC.

About the role

About the Role

Elayne is an Applied AI company reimagining how families organize, protect, and transfer their estates, from financial accounts and legal documents to digital assets and end-of-life wishes. We combine structured data, custom AI agents, and guided UX to make estate optimization and post-loss settlement fast, clear, and dignified.

We integrate with banks, insurance providers, legal systems, and data aggregators to create a real-time, intelligent view of an individual or family’s estate. Then we proactively adapt to life events (like having a child or losing a parent), and automate complex legal-financial workflows that typically take families years to finish.

We’re an Accel and YC-backed seed stage company, launched last year and we’re operating in a manual $260B TAM, with over $80T in assets expected to transfer in the coming decades. This is a greenfield market for AI, and we intend to define the category.

Your Mission:

As the Founding Senior Engineer (AI/ML), you’ll build production-grade AI systems that are technically rigorous, reliable, and scalable.

Working closely with the founding team, you’ll design and implement LLM-based features using RAG, vector search, and multi-step agent workflows to address challenges like entity resolution, document classification, and contextual memory management.

You’ll play a key role in developing core infrastructure for prompt orchestration, embedding pipelines, and real-time inference, while optimizing for latency, cost, trust, and personalized outcomes.

Your work will shape how millions of families navigate one of life’s most difficult transitions: losing a loved one. In this senior role, you’ll have the autonomy to move quickly, prototype novel architectures, and translate complex ML systems into intuitive, deeply human experiences.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Builder’s mindset: you move fast, take full ownership, write reliable systems, and are obsessed with solving real problems
  • 4+ years of engineering experience shipping production-grade AI features or infrastructure
  • Strong Python and AI/ML background, with experience building agentic or RAG-based systems using LangChain, vector DBs, and evaluation frameworks
  • Skilled in building scalable full-stack solutions using TypeScript, NestJS, PostgreSQL, AWS and modern data tools
  • Thrive in ambiguity, urgency, and rapid iteration - ideally you’ve been part of a high intensity seed stage startup before (we work long hours, but have a lot of fun together)
  • Based in NYC and excited to work in-person at our NoMad HQ

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and build AI-native product features like document parsing, task checklists, and smart suggestions
  • Integrate models (OpenAI, Anthropic, OSS) into workflows using LangChain, custom pipelines, or purpose-built flows
  • Collaborate with the founding team on technical scoping, architecture, and infrastructure decisions
  • Contribute to embedding strategies, feedback loops, and prompt tuning frameworks
  • Define and implement evaluation frameworks to measure output quality, user trust, latency, and model performance
  • Stay on the frontier of AI tooling and infrastructure and bring practical innovations into production

Current stack: React, TypeScript, NestJS, PostgreSQL, Redis, AWS, OpenAI, Auth0. You don’t need to know everything, but we value engineers who learn fast and aren’t afraid to jump in

Upcoming challenges include building memory across sessions, reliable summarization pipelines, and intelligent fallback mechanisms for partially structured data.

We’ll be a great fit if you’re looking for:

  • A rare chance to build an iconic company with actual human impact; not just another AI CRM or dev tool
  • An opportunity to grow into a technical leader, mentor others, and set the technical and ethical foundations for how AI guides financial and legal decisions
  • YC, Accel, and mission-aligned investors backing a product with massive, untapped demand

Compensation:

Salary range $160k–$250k, depending on experience and qualifications

Meaningful equity package is included; final composition will be determined by level, scope, relevant experience, and cash vs equity preference. Benefits/PTO included.

Most critically, your impact will be foundational. You’ll drive product evolution, enable customer success, and accelerate our path to becoming the trusted platform in this massive, untapped market.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Builder’s mindset: you move fast, take full ownership, and are obsessed with solving real problems

    • Drive model selection (OpenAI, Anthropic, OSS) and evaluation
    • Track latency, quality, hallucinations, and cost across use cases
  • Own ML/AI infra and observability:
    • Deploy models across scalable infrastructure (AWS, serverless, GPU-optimized)
    • Define supervised feedback loops and retraining strategies
    • Monitor hallucination, trust, and LLM safety metrics

Current stack: React, TypeScript, NestJS, PostgreSQL, Redis, AWS, OpenAI, Auth0. Always iterating; stack decisions are grounded in performance, reliability, and developer velocity

Full-Time

At Hi Marley, we’re not just a technology company—we’re on a mission to revolutionize the insurance industry with our conversational platform that makes communication simple, efficient, and delightful. Built for carriers, powered by SMS, and designed by insurance experts, Hi Marley connects people through seamless, friendly conversations that save time, money, and hassle. Our platform helps insurance carriers strengthen customer relationships while streamlining operations. With a focus on collaboration, coaching, and powerful analytics, we deliver the insights insurance teams need when they need them—creating a smooth, frictionless experience for customers along the way.

We are seeking a strategic and technically-minded Senior Product Manager to lead our Data & Analytics initiatives. You will own the product vision for insights and data across the Hi Marley platform—ensuring accuracy, surfacing actionable insights, and delivering meaningful data experiences that support intelligent, unified communication in insurance.

This role sits within our Platform Team and collaborates closely with Engineering, Analytics, Customer Success, and Go-to-Market teams. You’ll partner across the business to turn raw data into tools our customers and teammates love and trust—spanning infrastructure, insights, and governance.

Teamwork and shared enthusiasm is a core part of our culture, which is why this role involves joining us in the Boston office for two days each week.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the Data Product Strategy: Define and execute the roadmap for Hi Marley’s internal and external data products—anchored in company and customer goals.
  • Deliver Customer-Facing Insights: Lead the creation of dashboards and embedded analytics experiences that drive clarity and action across insurance workflows.
  • Define & Prioritize Instrumentation: Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to define, prioritize, and validate event tracking, product usage metrics, and other behavioral signals that support product decision-making.
  • Ensure Data Accuracy & Completeness: Champion data trust by working with Analytics and Engineering to validate models, ensure reliable pipelines, and enable self-service access to trusted data.
  • Support Business Intelligence & Internal Storytelling: Help stakeholders across the company turn data into decisions by designing intuitive metrics, scalable reporting, and proactive insights.
  • Guide Infrastructure Investment: Work closely with Data Engineering to prioritize investments in pipelines, orchestration, and modeling that balance long-term scalability with near-term business needs.
  • Drive Platform Collaboration: Act as a connective tissue between technical depth and product usability—bringing strong product thinking to internal platform tradeoffs and foundational data systems.
  • Uphold Data Privacy & Governance: Partner with security, compliance, and legal teams to shape policies around data retention, secure delivery, access controls, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate Across Functions: Influence cross-functional priorities and bring together Engineering, Product, Compliance, Analytics, and Customer Success around a shared platform vision.
  • Leverage AI to Add Value: Work with internal AI and product teams to enrich our insights with predictive and conversational intelligence.

What We’re Looking For

  • 6+ years of Product Management experience, with a strong focus on data, analytics, or internal platform products
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional product teams and collaborate across engineering, analytics, and compliance functions
  • Strong technical fluency—you understand data models, pipelines, orchestration, and can guide architectural tradeoffs
  • Experience delivering data products in B2B SaaS, ideally within a regulated industry
  • Familiarity with BI platforms such as Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or AWS Quicksight
  • A track record of simplifying complex data into intuitive and actionable experiences for customers and internal stakeholders
  • Comfort with data governance and lifecycle policies, including privacy, access management, and compliance standards
  • Ability to shape and influence long-term platform direction—not just reporting features
