Frontier AI Safety & Policy Panel: Where We're at & Where We're Headed – Perspectives from the UK

It's been around a year since chatbots became widespread and governments worldwide turned their attention to advanced AI safety and governance. In this event co-hosted by MIT CSAIL Alliances, the MIT-UK program and the UK government’s AI Safety Institute, we will discuss the current state of research and where we're headed. Questions to be answered include: How will we control and govern AI agents?

Researchers from MIT and elsewhere designed a communication framework that enables academics to ask for research help on social media using meronymous communication, in which the asker only reveals certain verified aspects of their identity. Three MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) members are among 126 early-career researchers honored with 2024 Sloan Research Fellowships by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Representing the departments of Chemistry, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Physics, and the MIT Sloan School of Management, the awardees will receive a two-year, $75,000 fellowship to advance their research.
