Harold Abelson is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT Computer Science Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) and a Fellow of the IEEE. He holds an A.B. degree from Princeton University and a Ph.D. degree in mathematics.

Industry Impact

Hal Abelson's work with the MIT App Inventor has fostered an intuitive, visual programming environment that allows anyone to build fully functioning apps for smartphones and tablets. This project seeks to democratize software development by empowering all people to move from technology consumption to technology creation. App Inventors in school and outside of traditional education settings have come together to achieve social impact to their communities through their apps.
