Role Synopsys

Digital Science and Engineering applies the current edge of digital innovation capabilities to the energy challenge of providing energy to the world while transitioning to a zero carbon future. Digital Science uses the business adoption of new digital technologies as it’s measure of performance. Although relatively small in size, Digital Science is world class in reach, processes, activities, and results. It works with the very highest levels of external organizations and operates within the full context of external digital and business innovation as well as bp strategy.

The Technology Principal is responsible for the identification and application of a range of emerging digital technologies for bp with a particular emphasis on Robotics technologies. The expectations for the impact on bp in terms of economic value are very high due to the increasing importance assigned to digital technologies including robotics at the bp leadership team level. Virtually all of bp’s front-line activities are being digitized and robotics and other digital technologies have been identified as a major source of bp’s productivity and potential for top line improvement. Also, the range, and scope of external digital technology change are increasingly broad in scope and occurring at a faster pace.

This position is part of a team which combines innovation, business development, and relationship management. It is significantly different from traditional digital leadership roles with large portfolios, this role will lead a number of initiatives working with highly technical people engaged in pioneering, innovative activities that are inherently unstructured.

Responsibilities

  • Scan the digital technology horizon to identify emerging digital trends, new products and solutions potentially relevant to bp; assess potential vendors, consultants, and market segments.
  • Expert in at least one core aspect of emerging robotics; one or more technology fields, and acts a knowledge transfer agent to a wider community in bp.
  • Develop and nurture collaborative external relationships at the CEO or executive level with major vendors, venture capital firms, governments, academic institutions and research firms for long-term collaboration.
  • Lead delivery of projects to prove viability or potential value of technologies.
  • Work closely with executive management to identify key challenges that can be addressed through new digital technology, and seek to solve problems with the help of the Digital Science ecosystem.
  • Promote awareness on emerging robotics and other digital technologies and trends among senior management in bp.
  • Provide advice and counsel to senior executives in setting business directions or policies and make a significant contribution to bp entity strategies.

Customer Financial Services (CFS) is looking for a talented researcher to join a new AI research team. The core focus of this team is to transform today’s business processes into AI-driven processes. This researcher will help accomplish this goal through collaboration with other researchers to develop and deploy cutting-edge ML algorithms across the organization.  
The team is currently working on computer vision for document scanning and deep learning for natural language processing and time series.

Key Responsibilities

-    Lead cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence and machine learning applications
-    Design and test new analytical methods with a creative blend of theory and practice
-    Develop and test new algorithms/functions to address core subject-matter requirements and customer engagements
-    Initiate and lead research programs spanning multiple areas of strategic importance, guiding and coordinating research staff responsible for specific areas
-    Interacts with business leaders to understand business strategy, conditions, and problem areas
-    Communicate and present research and findings in a precise manner to business leaders and executives
-    Influence decision making based on insight from research projects
-    Consult across all processes at Dell and recommend short-term and long-term solutions
-    Build a research portfolio for short-term and long-term expected business wins built on state-of-the-art and emerging technologies
-    Develop IP for Dell in the form of patents and submit publications to relevant conferences (such as CVPR, NeurIPS, ICCV, ECCV, ICML, ICLR, etc.)
-    Deliver results and presentations in a timely manner and handle projects with a long- term focus
-    Collaborate with groups from academic institutions and teams of business partners
-    Serve as subject-matter analytics expert in presentations to customers and larger audiences
-    Mentor and educate new data scientists with best practices and latest techniques

Requirements

-    CS, Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering (or related field) education
-    Master’s and PhD students are preferred, however those with Bachelor’s degrees and extensive research experience will be considered

-    Experience contributing to research communities and/or efforts, including publications at conferences and/or patents
-    Experience in experimental design across multiple domains of research
-    Must have exceptional communication skills as you would have to clearly articulate advanced concepts to a wide range of audiences
-    Demonstrated ability to deliver enterprise grade AI/Machine learning solutions for large scale environments
-    GPU programming experience
-    Passion to keep current on emerging technologies in the big data, data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning space
-    Experience with Python, R, Scala, C, C++
-    Ability to prioritize and manage work load on critical projects
