JOB TITLE- Data Scientist

 

Fidelity Workplace Investing is seeking a Data Scientist with a Master’s degree in a quantitative or computational field such as Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or Applied Mathematics, OR a Data Scientist with a Bachelor’s degree in a similar field with at least two years of relevant industry or research experience.

The Purpose of Your Role

The functions of this role include applications of data science and advanced analytics for improving Fidelity’s products and services to meet the needs of Workplace Investing clients and participants. The successful candidate will work primarily with senior, principal, and lead data scientists, product, marketing, finance, and technology teams across the firm. The assignments will include gathering internal and external data from multiple sources, data processing, exploratory data analysis, predictive analytics, unstructured data mining, prescriptive analytics, interpretation of findings, and presentation.

The successful candidate will be capable of supporting projects across many areas with the highest degree of quality. They will have a proven record of assuring quality of data gathering and analysis, be a team player who thrives in a small, high performing work environment and acts with confidence to communicate to all levels of Workplace Solutions as well as associates and management from other business units.  The ideal Data Scientist for this role should demonstrate a solid level of data science and machine learning knowledge as well as experience with data science systems and processes. I.e., they can gather the data (structured or unstructured) in any shape and size using any programming languages necessary, process the data, analyze them graphically and statistically, develop and execute machine learning and other artificial intelligence approaches, draw interesting and unique insights into the business, package the information into meaningful and effective presentations, and finally be able to present to technical and non-technical audiences.

The Skills You Bring

  • A strong Python and SQL programmer with demonstrated proficiency in data extraction, data engineering, data analysis, machine learning, data modeling and pipeline automation.  An ability to summarize data into reports showing basic relationships among features in the data.  An ability to write object-oriented solutions and to package together and streamline existing models is preferred
  • Familiarity with at least some of the following quantitative fields: Advanced Statistical Analysis & Modeling, Econometric Time Series Analysis, Mathematical Programming, Multi-Objective Optimization, Decision Theory, Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence, Causal Inference & Program Evaluation, Bayesian Network, Text Mining & Natural Language Processing, Behavioral Economics, Uplift Modeling, Recommender System, Design of Experiment, Reinforcement Learning, Monte Carlo Simulation, and Bayesian Statistics.  Some experience in training regression and classification models using typical ML algorithms.  
  • Exploratory data analysis and statistical graphics
  • Experience in Big Data technologies such as Snowflake, Sagemaker, Hadoop, MapReduce, and/or other cloud-based data science platform
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Knowledge of business fields, social sciences, or health sciences a plus, such as Marketing, Finance, Economics, Survey Research, Accounting, Psychology, Management, Epidemiology, Bioinformatics, Health Economics, and Health Policy & Management
  • Highly meticulous with proven ability to ensure quality of complex data and analysis
  • Ability to pick up new knowledge fast and enthusiastic about continuous learning
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with various levels of management from different functions
  • Be proactive and takes initiatives; thinks creatively, drives projects to completion and insists on the highest level of quality
